A Place for Your Child

Applying for a School Place

We understand that choosing the right school for your child is an important decision. Our admissions process is designed to be clear, supportive, and transparent, ensuring families are guided confidently through each stage of the process.

We welcome children from all backgrounds and are committed to providing every child with the opportunity to thrive in a safe, inclusive, and high-quality learning environment.

How to Apply

Normal Point of Entry (Reception and Year 7)

Applications for school places at the normal point of entry, such as Reception or Year 7, are made through Staffordshire County Council as part of the coordinated admissions process.

Staffordshire County Council:

  • Receives applications
  • Applies each school’s admissions criteria
  • Issues offer letters to parents and carers

Application deadlines and key dates are published on the Staffordshire County Council website each year.

In-Year Applications (Changing School During the School Year)

If you wish to apply for a school place outside the normal admissions round, this is known as an in-year application.

In-year applications are made using the Staffordshire County Council in-year application form and should be submitted to the preferred school in the first instance. The school will contact you directly regarding the outcome of the application.

Admission to Special Schools

Places at special schools are usually offered through an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), coordinated by Staffordshire County Council.

For children with an EHCP, placement decisions are made as part of the statutory annual review and consultation process. Parents and carers should contact their SEND Case Officer for advice on naming a special school.

Schools are unable to offer places directly outside of this process.

Oversubscription and Offers

If a school receives more applications than places available, applications are considered against the oversubscription criteria set out in the school’s Admissions Policy. These criteria are applied fairly and consistently to all applicants.

For normal point of entry admissions, offer letters are issued by Staffordshire County Council.

Visiting Our Schools

We strongly encourage prospective parents and carers to visit our schools, meet staff, and explore our facilities. Open days, school tours, and meetings with school leaders provide a valuable opportunity to learn more about each school’s ethos and the support available to children and families.

Please contact the individual school office to arrange a visit.

Appeals and Further Information

If your child is not offered a place at your preferred school, you have the right to appeal the decision. Details of the appeals process and timetable are published on each school’s website.

If you need further support or advice about applying for a place for your child, school staff will be happy to help. Contact details can be found on the individual school websites.
